The Premiere Prince Hall Lodge of the District of Columbia, constituted June 6, 1825.

Social Lodge has been working in the Washington, DC community since it’s organizational date on November 22, 1822.

Bro. John W. Prout called a meeting at his home for the purpose of organizing a Masonic Lodge. At this meeting were George Bell, Eugene B. Brown, William Briscal, William Carroll, George Coggins, William Costin, Francis Datcher, Sr., Rev. Stephney Forrest, Charles D. Holly, George S. Jackson, William Jackson, Mathias Harkins, Nicholas Franklin, Moses Liverpool, Edward Maddox, Daniel Magruder, Lloyd Nichols, Joseph Price, John Randig, William T. Richardson, Hamilton D. Savage, Robert H. Teel, Samuel L. Smoot, Richard Wallace, Sr., Joshua Waters and William Wormely.

These African-American men challenged the conscience of the nation to correct the ills of inadequate education, racial and ethnic strife no matter how subtle and to free not only the physical being but the mental and spiritual aspects of a people once enslaved under servitude. Thus began the Social Lodge No. 1, Northeast Project for as all good builders start the foundation of a structure in the Northeast corner so today do we continue fortifying those projects began over one-hundred and ninety years ago by “Social” men.

Through the years, Social Lodge has endeavored to remain foremost in advancing the cause of Prince Hall masonry in the district of Columbia. Our lodge has provided the Washington, DC jurisdiction with 12 grandmasters.
